Heart Associates of Oregon
The Heart Associates cardiologists Jay Chappell, M.D., Samuel Lau, M.D. and Soo Park, M.D., perform a variety of diagnostic and interventional heart procedures in the Heart Center, including pacemaker implants, stent placements, tranesophageal echocardiography, and percutaneous PFO and ASD closures. Nurse Practitioner, Craig Peck, and Physician Assistant, Paul Binder, rounds out the Heart Associates team providing clinical assistance with patient care.
Our surgeons and cardiologists work as a team alongside our cardiac nurses and technologists to help ensure patients and their families are comfortable, safe and informed throughout their procedures and surgeries. Whether patients are on the heart unit for surgery or other cardiac treatments, they stay in the same unit from admission through discharge.
To show our commitment to cardiovascular care, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center is a participant with the American College of Cardiology. Under the medical leadership of cardiologist Jay Chappell, M.D., the Heart Center has pioneered many advanced technologies.
- In 2008 Dr. Samuel Lau performed the first percutaneous closure of a patent foramen ovale (PFO) to be done in Springfield.
- In Lane County, the COGNISTM cardiac resynchronization defibrillator (CRT-D) was first implanted at McKenzie-Willamette.
- In the fall of 2009, Dr. Jay Chappell was the first cardiologist in the area to implant a pacemaker equipped with wireless technology. The device offers automatic test results and complete diagnostics that can be monitored remotely for regularly scheduled checks, and alerts the physician of any patient or device abnormalities.
