Heart Associates Opens in Springfield
Local Cardiologists Jay Chappell, M.D., and Sam Lau, M.D., have opened a new practice in Springfield called the Heart Associates. The new practice is located at 960 N. 16th, Suite 304.
Both cardiologists work at the Heart Center at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, as well as their outpatient clinic. They perform a variety of diagnostic and interventional heart procedures including pacemaker implants, stent placements, tranesophageal echocardiography, and percutaneous PFO and ASD closures. Nurse Practitioner, Craig Peck, rounds out the Heart Associates team providing clinical assistance with patient care.
Dr. Chappell attended medical school at University of California Davis, completed his residency and internship at the Virginia Mason Medical Center, and his fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center. He has been practicing cardiology in the Eugene-Springfield area for 19 years.
Dr. Lau attended Creighton University for his undergraduate and medical school degrees. He trained in internal medicine at Creighton, then served four years in the U.S. Air Force as an internist. He then completed his fellowship in general and interventional cardiology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He has been serving patients in the Eugene-Springfield area for 10 years.
Formerly with Oregon Cardiology, Drs. Chappell and Lau opened their new practice November 1, 2009.
“While we will continue to serve patients at both hospitals in Springfield, it is important to us that we are able to offer our services near McKenzie-Willamette and continue to build their heart program,” says Dr. Chappell, who has served as the Medical Director of the Heart Center at McKenzie-Willamette since 2006.
