De-stress with Meditation
What would you do with an hour a week just for you? An hour to breathe, to reflect, to be. . .
As he has done for many years, emergency physician Dr. John Mackey teaches weekly Zen meditation classes, at no cost to participants. Classes begin this fall and are held on Mondays, 6 to 7 p.m. in the McKenzie Room at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center.
In the Beginning Zen Meditation Class, basic meditation techniques will be introduced and practiced through six weekly sessions, with emphasis on healing of the body and psyche. “Lotus position NOT required — we sit in chairs,” says Dr. Mackey.
In the 7-week Nov. and the 8-week, May Advanced Zen Meditation Classes a deeper exploration of meditation techniques and Zen concepts is offered. The Advanced Class is recommended for those who have taken the Beginning Class, but not required. Both classes are based on fundamentals of Zen meditation.
