McKenzie-Willamette's Women's Health & Birth Center offers a premier health care experience -- whether you're having a biopsy, a hysterectomy, or bringing a child into the world.
The Center provides high quality, customized care for you and your loved ones. Patients enjoy thoughtfully appointed accommodations and knowledgeable staff on this patient-centered, family-friendly unit. New mother's stay in the same spacious room from admittance, through labor and delivery, until discharge.
McKenzie Willamette's Women's Health and Birth Center's (WHBC) goal is to make each patients experience special. "We believe that having a baby is the most profound spiritual, physical and emotional event that happens in a family's life and we try to honor that in the care that we give," said Syndee Lytle, WHBC nurse manager. Aligned with the hospital's mission of caring for people in extraordinary ways, McKenzie-Willamette's Women's Health and Birth Center is here to support and care for you, offering education and personalized care to make the profound experience of bringing a child into the world special for you, your baby, and your loved ones.
Our staff prides itself on tailoring care to meet each patient's special needs. We bring our nursing care to the patient, rather than taking the patient to the services. Cesarean births are done in the surgical suite just down the hall from the birthing suites. The mother is in the same room before and after surgery.
Recently, new mother Heidi Eisel shared her thoughts about McKenzie-Willamette's care, stating, "My family is definitely taking away a great experience from McKenzie Willamette..." The caregivers here are readily available for one-on-one consultations; they really care and it shows. You have the opportunity to work with the same nursing staff throughout your stay." Eisel also notes, "I had great trust in my nurses, and it was a wonderful relief to me to have them care for my baby, while I got some much needed rest."

Your Spacious Suite Awaits You
The most unique thing about McKenzie-Willamette is that labor, delivery, and post partum are all done in the same room. There are 15 spacious, private birthing suites, each designed around the needs of our patients and their loved ones. A daybed/sleep chair provides a comfortable spot for a friend or family member to stay the night. Each suite has a microwave, refrigerator, and an entertainment center equipped to play DVDs, CDs or cassettes. The tiled private bathroom is complete with a deep Jacuzzi tub, for relaxation before and after labor. In each room large windows provide restful views of the surrounding hills.
Eleven obstetricians and more than 40 nurses are on staff to ensure our patients experience a positive stay. As a level two nursing facility, the birthing center is equipped to take care of babies who need a little extra help. We can provide extra oxygen, antibiotics for an infection or special help with feeding. The Center also has its own operating room for cesarean surgery.
Managing Pain
In addition to the use of conventional medications to ease pain during labor, McKenzie-Willamette offers the following as complementary therapies:
- Jacuzzi tubs in every room: water and jets help ease labor pain.
- Birthing balls: sitting on these in different positions helps change baby's position.
- Birthing stools: help alleviate back pain and change baby's position.
- Portable monitoring, so mothers are able to enjoy a Jacuzzi, walk around and remain as active as they wish during labor.
Maternity Care Coordinator.
When an expecting mother decides to have her baby at McKenzie-Willamette, she is teamed up with a Maternity Care Coordinator who works with the mother throughout the entire hospital experience. She assists the parents to develop a birthing plan, coordinates any needed community assistance and explains hospital processes.
